SAO PAULO — Pinacoteca: Permanent Collection Tour
Pinacoteca: Permanent Collection Tour
ABOUT PINACOTECA
The Pinacoteca de São Paulo (PINA), founded in 1905, is one of Brazil’s leading museums devoted to visual arts. Its collection includes more than 11,000 works by over 400 artists — among them Anita Malfatti, Lygia Clark, Tarsila do Amaral and Candido Portinari — offering a broad view of Brazilian art from the 19th century to today. The institution operates across three sites: Pina Luz, Pina Estação and Pina Contemporânea.
The permanent collection is housed in Pina Luz, a late-19th-century building designed by the architectural office of Ramos de Azevedo and renovated by Paulo Mendes da Rocha in the 1990s. Known for its exposed-brick architecture and for hosting one of Brazil’s leading conservation and restoration laboratories, Pina Luz is the museum’s historic core and one of São Paulo’s most recognisable cultural landmarks.
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Join us for a guided visit through the permanent collection at Pina Luz, where we explore key works that reflect the development of Brazilian art from the 19th century to the present. The tour highlights a selection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and works on paper that showcase the diversity of artistic approaches within the museum’s collection.
As we move through the galleries, we discuss how these artworks engage with themes such as identity, landscape, daily life and Brazil’s cultural transformations, offering an accessible introduction to different periods and movements in Brazilian art.
