SAO PAULO — MASP: Permanent Collection Tour

MASP: Permanent Collection Tour

ABOUT MASP

The Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP), founded in 1947, is a private non-profit institution and one of Brazil’s leading cultural centres. The museum comprises two buildings and its iconic open-span structure: the original 1968 building designed by Lina Bo Bardi, a landmark of modern architecture, and the new building opened in 2024, named after MASP’s first artistic director, Pietro Maria Bardi.

MASP holds the most important collection of European art in the Southern Hemisphere. With more than 11,000 works spanning a wide range of periods, geographies and artistic media, the museum presents a dynamic programme of exhibitions, courses and cultural activities, guided by a mission to be diverse, inclusive and plural.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Join us for a guided visit through MASP’s permanent collection, displayed in the museum’s landmark building designed by Lina Bo Bardi. During the tour, we explore key works that illustrate the breadth of MASP’s holdings — from European masterpieces to significant works of Brazilian, Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous and self-taught artists.

As we move through the galleries, we discuss the museum’s innovative display methods and how the collection reflects diverse artistic traditions, cultural exchanges and shifting ideas around identity and everyday life. The tour offers a concise and engaging introduction to one of the most important art collections in the Southern Hemisphere.
